Abstract

Metaphor and metonymy as the main types of the lexical meaning transposition are described in this article. The result of this research work shows that the lexical meaning transposition lies in the specialization of a commonly used word with the help of “transition” of its main meaning by means of similarity (metaphor) or compatibility (metonymy).
