The article studies the role of the development of the audio and audiovisual text listening comprehension skills on the lessons of German as a foreign language for their practical use in the everyday foreign language communication and understanding of the current radio and video texts. The usage of this type of texts is connected to such actual problems like omission or substitution by the teacher in the classroom of audiovisual text by audio text only. According to the recent years’ polls
among the teachers and students, despite intensive development of multimedia approach to teaching of foreign languages in the world, and in Ukraine, a substitution of the whole foreign language lesson by a video film is often happen. The exercises that help to get relevant skills and should be made before and during the film are not carried out due to the lack of time. The article studies the mental models and cognitive processes that happen in the mind during the listening comprehension of the audio and audiovisual text. Despite the mutual integrity of the two processes the article primarily emphasizes their differences, which directly causes not the mutual substitution but the obligatory parallel use of these two types of texts for obtaining listening comprehension skills in the two aspects of listening comprehension of the foreign language communication on the lessons of German as a foreign language.
