Abstract

The article deals with analysis of functioning of elements of carnivalesque paradigm (chronotope, carnivalesque misalliances and profanities, grotesque image of the body, poetics of crownings-discrownings, mortality topic) in Jean Genet’s novel «Our Lady of the Flowers» in the context of an artistic whole. Numerous and varied demonstrations of the carnivalesque discourse in»Our Lady of the Flowers» attest the dominance of this tendency in the novel. It was proved that the system of carnivalesque motifs in «Our Lady of the Flowers» is semantically based on the mythological structures, on the symbolic of the «lower world». The results of the investigation extend the notion of novels poetical dominants and allows to place significant emphasis in the interpretation of ethical and aesthetic concept, formed in Jean Genet’s novelistic prose.
