Abstract

This paper deals with the issue of linguistic interference. Reference has been made to the reasons which determine the necessity of the research into linguistic interference. Attention has been paid to the concept of linguistic interference as a linguistic category. Each kind of phenomenon of linguistic interference (phonetic interference, lexical interference and grammatical interference) has been analysed. The issue of a translator being treated as a bilingual from the psycholinguistic point of view and the influence of bilingualism in the process of translation have being highlighted. The main theories which are based on the current psycholinguistic research of linguistic interference have been outlined. The paper also focuses on the hypothesis of linguistic relativity of Wilhelm von Humboldt that states the distinctions between the perception and ways of thinking of speakers of different languages and the inevitable conflict between the world outlook, knowledge and point of view of the author of a source text and a translator. It is stated that the law of skill formation also has influence on formation of linguistic interference that appears in the dominant role of the already formed skill of native language usage during the process of translation. The prospects and the main tendencies of the development of the psycholinguistic research of the linguistic interference have been characterized.
