Internet Facilities for Students ’ Independent Work in Learning English

The article deals with modern methods of using Internet facilities for independent work in learning foreign languages. The author offers the concept of students’ independent work in technical universities and characterizes the levels of knowledge that students acquire while performing the independent work. In the article, the Internet is defined as an important means of communication to fulfil the independent work and motivate students’ for search and creative activities. Firstly, the Internet allows everyone to get constantly new information on a topic of interest. Secondly, existing sites allow students to track their knowledge by executing particular training exercises. Thirdly, using the Internet enables to create a real language environment when working with authentic literature, listening to the original text, which will undoubtedly help to increase students‘ motivation to learn English. Finally, the Internet is indispensable in teaching different types and aspects of language.
The practical part of the article reviews Internet sites and Internet facilities that can help student in learning English individually. The author considers the possibility of using Internet technology to organize independent work in learning English in non-linguistic universities that contribute to the development of students‘ skills in speaking, writing, reading and understanding the language.
