Abstract

Cognitive dissonance as discrepancy between cognitions in the human knowledge system provokes inner psychological discomfort and tension, which can be reduced not only by the appeal to the human mind in the comprehension of incompatible information, but also with the application of emotional-psychological tactics. This paper outlines such tactics as calming, activization of mental faculties and ignoring. First two tactics are communicative as emotional-psychological influence on the character is realized by his partner of verbal interaction, while the tactic of ignoring is individual as it is accomplished by inner psychological efforts of the character who experiences cognitive dissonance. The aim of emotional-psychological tactics is not the supply of additional information, but on the contrary neglect of the dissonant facts, ordering of thoughts, calming and reassurance of the character. Research is accomplished on the basis of texts of modern French detective novels.
