Abstract

The article deals with the adjectives as means of the language formation and peculiarities of their function in the novel by Thomas Mann «Buddenbrooks». It emphasizes the crucial importance of a detailed description of the heroine’s appearance, her gestures, postures and clothing in the image of social and historical time. It is noted that the novel adjectives indicate the appearance of the person and her social status. It is noted that he choice of adjectives, their frequency and style reflect the main patterns and trends of individual style of the author, which proves the harmony and integrity of his style.
