Abstract

The article highlights the topic of intercultural communication taking into account the peculiarities of the situations that are inherent to Ivan Franko. It also accentuates some typical features of intercultural discourse that are common to the Great Kameniar’s translation works. It is proved that translation as a whole and translation by Ivan Franko constitute the main tool for expanding the stylistic and expressive means of the native language. Franko’s role as a translator and translation scientist for the development of the Ukrainian culture is discovered. At the same time, it is emphasized that perception of Ivan Franko’s translation heritage can integrate the spiritual needs of Ukrainian people on their way to a modern European space. The attention is focused on four principles that summarize the situation of I. Franko’s intercultural activities and their basic characteristic features are given. The concepts of intercultural communication and intertextuality are comprehended. Some trends of Franko’s translation works and their impact on the Ukrainian translation are traced. Based on the research about Ivan Franko as the Ukrainian translation founder, there have been made the attempts to simulate an individual opinion regarding
I. Franko’s intercultural communication. The attention is given to the peculiarities of the works, which have been translated by Franko and which are often accompanied by comments and scientific investigations. It is proved that Franko’s creative achievements as a talented mediator in intercultural communication are widely used by the current generation of Ukrainians.
