Abstract

This article describes the features of adequate translation of English lexical, morphological and syntactical units of oil-gas sphere. Particular attention is drawn to the style and genre of technical oil-gas texts. The main difficulties of the translation of this terminology are analyzed. It is proved that when translating phrases in the texts of oil and gas terminology it is important not only to find equivalent in the target language, but also to check the translation of each word-component of the phrase in particular. The author argues that the difficulties mentioned in the article in terms of terminology translation and explanations of how to overcome them, should help the translator in achieving accuracy, adequacy of translation as well as minimizing mistakes. For these purposes, one must also pay attention to the main methods of translation, to know the specifics of the industry. In general, the oil and gas sector combines a host of technologies from various fields of knowledge, such as engineering, chemistry, geology, insurance, accounting, and so on. The translator should also know the terminology. Moreover, with the advent of new technologies, equipment, and activities, oil and gas companies often develop their own terminology. A translator must also have a notion of this terminology. The conducted research shows that the translation of oil-gas texts requires special training, deep knowledge of native and foreign languages.
