CREATION OF THE ELECTRONIC RESOURCE FOR MASTERING ENGLISH TERMINOLOGY IN EDUCATION

Abstract

The article deals with the creation of an electronic resource for mastering English terminology in education. In the course of the research, the theoretical basis for the study of narrow-branch terminology in education has been analyzed. The translation techniques applied to interpreting the selected lacunar and non-equivalent vocabulary were found. They are calque and descriptive translation. The ratio between lacunar vocabulary and educational terminology, reflecting the realities of common English and Ukrainian languages was defined. In addition, the ratio of fixed and non-fixed selected lexical array of educational terminology in existing dictionaries is determined. It has been done by searching English-language lexical units in existing paper and electronic dictionaries. The advantages of electronic dictionaries were studied. The ABBYY Lingvo dictionary complete set is considered as one of the most popular series of existing reliable electronic dictionaries. The array of English language lexical units of educational terminology has been selected with a total number of 700 units. The interpretation of the unknown for the Ukrainian culture and education realities was presented. The selected array of English language lexical units of educational terminology was grouped into educational dictionaries by subject fields. All in all, 10 dictionaries in *.xls format have been compiled. ABBYY Lingvo Tutor x6 lessons were developed using the 10 educational dictionaries.
