Abstract

The article examines the role of persuasive speech influence in political communication. Political leaders increasingly use the Internet and a global network as a political tool for creating personal Web pages on different platforms of social networks to communicate their ideas. It is analyzed how presidential campaign nominees’ use the social network Twitter as a tool for strategic argumentation in political communication and create specific suggestive narratives for their electorate. The skills of language proficiency and rhetoric are sufficient for a politician to establish close relations with citizens, demonstrate his political identity and share his goals through political rhetoric. Being the latest social network tool Twitter is said to have been influencing presidential political campaigns greatly. To make the influence of their messages on voters to their benefit, presidential nominees often use various techniques to transmit their campaign ideas to the electorate in the most effective way. This paper presents content analysis of two presidential campaign nominees’ tweets Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Our study provides some early indication that Twitter may serve as an effective power knowledge transfer medium for creating political narratives which are underpinned by specific persuasive techniques and consequently is forming the new political landscape.
