Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of «the horizon of the reader’s expectation» in the work of the modern German writer Peter Hertling «Helderlin». It was found that in the analyzed work there are peculiar landmarks – the signals that the writer left to the reader in order to be able to develop his own «horizons of expectation», his point of view, to reach certain conclusions, to choose how to understand the message, and the narrative concept contributes it precisely. In accordance with the receptive method, the realization of an artistic product occurs only in the process of perceiving its reader, whose task is to decode the text, to add, to supplement it with the force of his imagination. The text contains direct author’s hints, judgments, ratings that can not be skipped. In most cases, the author directs the reader to his desired understanding of the work. Of course, the recipient is free to choose the solution to which point of view to adhere to, yet he is under the influence of the author’s concept, so he takes such a decision, which is already laid by the author. Thus, the author tried to establish a dialogue with the reader, a kind of a game with him, to activate his imagination, he sought to ensure that the reader developed his personal understanding of the text.
