Abstract

The article is devoted to the relevant issue – the analysis of how communicative strategies aimed at minimization of communicative dissonance are implemented in discourse on the material of job interview on intercultural level. A new type of institutional discourse is singled out – the modern German- and Swedish-language «Job interview» discourse. Its analysis is provided on the basis of traditions and peculiarities of the German- and Swedish-language linguoculture. The article presents research on the linguocultural peculiarities of this discourse type, reveals its institutional nature and discourse components. Among such components belong the chronotope, discourse agent’s domination, ritualized character of communication, which demand a set of communicative strategies implemented during job interview between the interviewer and the eventual jobseeker. In this research, a number of strategies for minimization of communicative dissonance are singled out: strategy of categoricity decrease, strategy of query for information, strategy of pursuit for successful cooperation. The strategies mentioned above are based on the wide range of chosen communicative tactics – mitigation tactics, tactics of modesty, tactics of «diplomatic» denial, tactics of maintaining distance and contact at the same time, tactics of compromise and tactics of veiled lie. They are used in the German- and Swedish-language «job interview» discourse and help its participants (institutional representative and the jobseeker) achieve their planned communicative aims. Special attention is drawn to stress technologies. Specific job interview techniques are analyzed: among them are different types of questions and imitation of silence. The mentioned techniques include the elements of verbal or implicit provocation, which in its turn enables to assess stress tolerance of the jobseeker by means of creating unexpected situations during job interviews. The behavior of the job interview participants is both influenced by intrinsic features of the «job interview» discourse and supported by their linguocultural traditions.
