Abstract

After the division of Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the entry of the Belarusian lands into the Russian Empire, the formation of the Belarusian national stereotype began, which aimed at the complete identification of the Belarusian and Russian peoples. The article examines the artistic interpretation of the Belarusian people, draws attention to the formation of the Belarusian national stereotype, which aims to fully identify the Belarusian and Russian people. Fundamental in art works is the principle of compositional contrast, one’s own / alien, which forms the “image of the enemy” in the reader. Positive characteristics of the character’s moral character allow Russian and Byelorussians to interleave, contributing to the Russification of the Belarusian national character in literature.
