SOCIAL ASPECTS OF UKRAINIAN-JEWISH COMMUNICATIONS IN PROSE OF IVAN FRANKO

Abstract

In the article features of artistic depiction of Ukrainian-Jewish communications in Ivan Franko’s novels are analyzed, in particular its social aspects in the context of the Galician historical situation of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
The study of Jewish ploblematics in the artistic heritage of Ivan Franko, which illuminates the sphere of human relationships and the Jewish existence in Galicia, is an important aspect of modern Franko science in Ukraine.
The peculiarities of the image of Ukrainian-Jewish intercultural relations in the works of Ukrainian writers are related to historical circumstances: in Western Ukraine, which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and in the Eastern Ukraine, which was part of the Russian Empire, the attitude towards the Jews and their position differed. In the article common features in artistic depiction of social aspects of Ukrainian- Jewish interaction in Ivan Franko’s novels “Good earnings”, “His own fault”, “Home industrу”, “Hawa” are analyzed.
