DIFFICULTIES IN LISTENING IN STUDENTS OF THE PHYSICAL TRAINING FACULTY (ON THE MATERIALS OF THE TV CHANNEL “EURONEWS”)

Abstract

The article outlines a circle of scientists who are studying the issue of listening conducting in higher educational institutions. The scientific-methodological interpretation of the term “listening” has been determined. Great attention was paid to the communicative approach, which is a highly affective and prioritized way in listening training. It has been emphasized that the news of TV channel “Euronews” is an excellent resource of materials for full-time listening class as well as for a part of the lesson at higher education institutions. It is stressed that visualization of the text in the form of television messages positively affects the perception of English by Ukrainian students. Sports news was used as a material for listening to the students of the faculty of physical training. Lexis that caused difficulties in the process of listening was divided into several groups and analyzed. The results of the study have been also described depending on the level of difficulty of various language units perception. It has been noted that during watching the proposed English videos, the most difficult part of the speech for perception was a noun, and the simplest ones were pronouns and adverbs. The author supposes that the usage of TV channel “Euronews” materials contributes the formation of a prediction skill for further information, which, in turn, eases the process of English speech perception, especially if there is a new, unfamiliar lexis for listeners. Thus, TV channel news contributes not only to the formation of English-language listening skills but to formation of professional and multilingual competencies as well.
