PECULIARITIES OF THE VERBS’ FIGURATIVE MEANINGS DENOTING CONFLICT ACTIONS IN MODERN URKAINIAN

The present paper deals with the lexico-semantic peculiarities of the language units denoting conflict actions, their figurative meanings on the material of modern Ukrainian. The study has been carried out with the help of the formalized lexical semantics analysis which gives the possibility to classify the verbs, disclose their both common and distinctive features as well as quantitative and qualitative characteristics in the language under study. The study has revealed the conceptual spheres of conflict actions’ sources such as struggle for power and high position in the society, the protest, disagreement with someone or something, hostility, revenge, cunning and craftiness that lead to the torment, mental suffering, hatred, and only compromise and cooperation can lead to the relations settlement.
While comparing the figurative meanings of the verbs denoting conflict actions in modern Ukrainian, it has been proved that antagonistic, positional and emotional conflicts prevail over others. Furthermore, in this paper due to the figurative meanings of the verbs in Ukrainian the types of conflict actions with different degrees of tensity have been distinguished. The latter, of course, do not cover the whole range of conflict actions, but give a relatively complete picture of the specifics of the verbs’ occurrence, course and solution.
