The question of the ways of word-formation with the formant, which includes a materially unexpressed suffix, is currently one of the most controversial issues in Ukrainian derivatology. Null-suffixal monosyllabic adjectives, derived from verbs, numerals, and pronouns, has not yet been the subject of research, they were only mentioned in passing, which gives rise to the relevance of the proposed study. At an entry there is offered solution to such problems, as determining the peculiarities of motivation of the speech units under study, ascertainment of paradigmatic relations of the corresponding derivatives, and analysis of structural-semantic peculiar features of null-suffixal monosyllabic adjectives. The analysis results show that among single-root adjectives, derived with a zero-suffix formant, there are de-substantives, deverbatives, denumerals and depronominatives, moreover, denumerals make a quantitatively checked train of words and are one of the most effective groups. Deverbatives with materially unexpressed affix are one of unproductive groups, while zero-suffix depronominatives make a not productive group have presence in a single lexical item. Entering into paradigmatic relations, the materially non-expressed suffix substantiates its importance as a word component and the constituent of the formant. All zero adjectival suffixes, which form deverbatives, denumerals, and depronominatives enter into homonymous relations with one another, and denumerals can enter into synonymous relations with a materially expressed suffix. Some of the studied null-suffix units are parts of phraseological combinations and can be considered as connotative words, which corroborates their ancient origin. We haven’t recorded any individual-authorial null-suffixal one-root adjectives among the adjectives of the studied word-formation group synchronous pointcut, which proves the unproductiveness of the materially unexpressed suffix as a means of word-formation.
