NAMES OF RESIDENTIAL COMPLEXES OF CITY OF THE KYIV: ORIGIN, PRINCIPLES OF NOMINATION, STRUCTURE

Abstract

Ukrainian onomastics is constantly being updated with new units. In the modern realities of the first quarter of the ХХІst century the name of residential complexes became popular. The appearance of the name is still at the stage of creating a project houses. The article analyzes the names of residential complexes of the capital of Ukraine. Their origin, their basic principles and reasons for nomination are examined, the structure and word-formation features of such names are described.
Based on the classification of proper names by the nature of the denoting object, proposed by M.M. Torchynsky, the names of residential complexes are attributed to the denotative-nominative type of pragmatonims – objects related to human material activity, a subclass of architecturonims (these are the proper names of structures erected by a person for residential, industrial, entertaining or other purpose), the class of domonims (the proper names of buildings as architectural structures).
All names of residential complexes of the capital of Ukraine can be divided into two subgroups on a formal basis – the graphics that formed the basis of the reproduced names. About 30% of the names of residential complexes are in latin, the rest in cyrillic.
Borrowed names of residential complexes are based on common names (vidapelyatyv) and proper names (vidonim).
The domonims of the Kyiv are predominantly English, and in their semantics they bear the concepts of aristocracy, security, comfort, stability, and in structure they are mostly one-component and two-component proprietary.
The prospect of further study will be to study the functions that fulfill these names, to clarify the language universals in the principles of nominative domination within Ukraine and others.
