SOME FACTORS OF THE VALENCY THEORY (BY THE EXAMPLE OF BUILDING MATERIALS TERMS)

Abstract

The article deals with some peculiarities of terminology valency theory by the example of the terms in construction. The development of the valency theory is under consideration. Relevant scientific works devoted to valency theory and valency analysis have been scrutinized. The definition of “valency” has been presented. Key points of valency, its classification, description of its features and peculiarities as well as its types have been studied.
The study considers nomination process of special concepts and analyzes bonds in compound building materials terms. The relevance of valency concept for term nomination has been grounded. Common patterns of valency bonds due to extra linguistic factors have been revealed. The valency of compound terms is studied as internal one. The differentiation between “formal” and “semantic” internal valency has been analyzed. Some peculiarities of the valency of building materials terms have been described. Morphological and syntax characteristics of internal valency have been pointed out. Factors, having an effect on the term cooccurrence and the formation of new terms of building materials, have been determined. Patterns and specifics of building materials term formation have been presented.
