Abstract

The main semantic feature of derivative words is that they denote reality indirectly, through the relation of one object to another. Therefore, the derivative relationship arises synchronously between lexical units, if one of these units is primary, motivating, and the other – secondary, motivated. The primary word is mostly unmotivated, the meaning of derivative word is motivated by the meaning of the same primary word. The motivating word has a forming stem, which is the part of motivating word, and is common to the primary and secondary. Word-forming derivation – the relation between two single-root words, the meaning of one of which is determined by the meaning of the other, or modified by the meaning of the other. A distinguishing feature of a derivative word is its relation to another word and its semantic conditionality. There are no derivative relationships between words unless there is anything in common from the semantic point of view. The derivative word leads us to the semantics of the primary word.
The meaning of derivative word is uniquely and standardly derived based on the combination of morpheme meanings within the given word. In terms of external shape, i.e. structure, derivative words combine the word-forming stem and word-forming formant and are obligatory components of the derivative. The word-forming formant in our study is the inseparable verbal prefix ent-, which attaches to the forming stem and forms a new lexical unit with already changed semantics.
The article describes derivative verbs that are formed by the inseparable verbal prefix ent-. The semantics of derivatives have been studied by well-known foreign and domestic linguists, and no significant differences in the semantics of derivative verbs have been observed in their studies. Therefore, the semantics of derivative verbs with the prefix ent- is a movement in the direction of something, the beginning of an action, the reversing meaning or the complete opposition to the forming stem, liquidation and elimination.
