STATE AND STATUS OF THE POLISH LANGUAGE AS A NATIONAL MINORITY LANGUAGE IN CLASSES WITH THE POLISH LANGUAGE OF EDUCATION (IVANO-FRANKIVSK)

The article describes the results of a sociolinguistic research conducted in 2019 among young people of Polish and non-Polish origin, who study together in classes for the Polish national minority in secondary school № 3 (today’s Lyceum №3) in Ivano-Frankivsk (formerly Stanislaviv). It was conducted a survey, in total 170 questionnaires regarding the status of the Polish language among young people aged 12-17 studying in classes with the Polish language of study. According to the charter of the school, pupils who are not of Polish origin have a right to study in these classes. For the group of pupils of Polish origin – 42 persons (25% of the total number of respondents), the Polish language has the status of an inherited language, the language of ancestors, as well as economic status, the Polish language is related to future studies and life in Poland. For the group of pupils of non-Polish origin – 128 persons (75% of the total number of respondents), the Polish language has an economic status and the status as a second foreign language of education; about 40% of these pupils associate their future with emigration to Poland.
