THE STUDY OF THE FORMATION OF HUMAN VALUES, IN PARTICULAR ALTRUISM IN MODERN YOUTH AND EDUCATIONAL POTENTIAL IN TEACHING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TO STUDENTS TRANSLATORS AND INTERPRETERS

Abstract

The study gives a definition of the term ‘altruism”, analyses the views of leading foreign scientists on the essence of “altruism”, moral principles and gender differences as to the degree of “altruism” as well as the statements of modern Ukrainian researchers regarding the education of altruistic qualities in youth. The result of the survey and comparative analysis show that the majority of students have a general idea about the term “altruism”, moreover, they also have a clear understanding of the prevalence of a certain type of personality and priority of moral values in modern society. The survey also proves a certain educational potential in the content of authentic text-books in teaching a foreign language to students translators and interpreters. In our opinion, the implementation of different forms and methods of teaching, the use of authentic audio, video and Internet materials in foreign language lessons taking into consideration the above mentioned problem will contribute to the effective process of educating altruistic qualities in youth.
