NEW EXAMPLES OF EXPRESSIVE MEANS IN MODERN UKRAINIAN SCIENTIFIC POPULAR MEDIA TEXT

Abstract

In the article the author, based on rich illustrative material, analyzes new trends in the functioning of expressively marked language units, expressive means in the texts of various genre in modern Ukrainian popular science media. Their role in the popularization of science, influence on the communicative effectiveness of the studied texts, in the creation of accessible material, persuasiveness, and easy perception of scientific thought is also defined. The activization of colloquial, jargon vocabulary in the popular scientific language was observed, which is a consequence of its democratization, looseness in the life of Ukrainian society. The functions of substandard vocabulary in the studied texts, which is a means of stylization of informal, casual communication, are analyzed. The author identified the new trends in the active use of occasional vocabulary in headlines, narrow-field terms, with which journalists represent modern achievements of science and technology, convey information and knowledge about them to their audience, and make them more accessible to the recipient. Attention is focused on the fact that the latest occasional formations are a sign of Ukrainian popular science texts. Such lexemes are mostly positively evaluated, contribute to the creation of a bright stylistic effect. Journalists deliberately choose them for headlines in order to attract attention. Peculiarities of the definition as a kind of genre in popular scientific discourse are studied. The linguistic specificity of titles, beginnings, lead paragraphs, as well as means of diversifying their content and structure, creating the effect of dialogism, means of expressive syntax are also outlined. Syntactic units that have various expressive tinges, the property of creating a special tension of sensations, sharpening attention to the issue are considered. The main factors motivating the authors to improve, diversify the linguistic form of materials, and give them a distinct author’s individuality are highlighted.
