Abstract

The article analyzes the lexical and syntactic features of the representation of the motifs of loneliness, death and sadness in the novels «Maria» and «The Mountains Speak» by Ulas Samchuk. It is found that the depth and expressiveness of the analyzed motifs is reflected not only by the richness of the author’s vocabulary, but also by the skillful combination of words and the use of artistic means. The leading existential motifs in the writer’s works are revealed both explicitly, with the help of lexemes that have different linguistic affiliations, and implicitly. It is studied that the motifs of loneliness, death and sadness act as pervasive artistic dominants that form the emotional and content basis of the studied works and perform a key function in the representation of both the national tragic experience and the deeply personal suffering of the characters. For the artistic realization of the above-mentioned motifs, the author uses various lexical, syntactic and stylistic means, with the help of which he emphasizes the psychological vulnerability and internal tension of the characters against the background of dramatic historical events.
It has been found that loneliness in the texts appears not only as a physical state, but as a deeply existential and psychological experience, closely connected with the historical catastrophe, death – as an inevitable limit of human existence, which, symbolizing its completion, at the same time reveals the spiritual meaning of life, and sadness – as an artistic means of representing individual and national pain, which is organically woven into the fabric of the narrative and closely connected with the tragedy of Ukrainian history. The above-mentioned motifs acquire not only a plot function, but also a conceptual meaning, forming a deep philosophical and emotional dimension of the artistic text.
