Abstract

The article examines gender relations in modern Ukrainian society through the prism of socio-philosophical analysis of mass culture phenomena. The novel by N. Gurnytska "Melody of coffee in the tonality of cardamom" was chosen as the object of the study. The statement about this novel as a work of postmodern literature, stylized as the literature of the era of romanticism, is substantiated. The main images of gender phenomena found in the novel are identified and characterized. The meaning and interpretation of gender phenomena are defined as characteristic of postmodern literature, despite the successful romantic imitation. The socio-cultural functioning of the novel is described within the broader context of gender transformations of modern Ukrainian society associated with the ratification of the Istanbul Convention.
Based on the concept of "gender" given in the Convention, the meaning and manifestations of this side of the human personality and individuality in the interpretation of the author of the novel are analyzed. The conclusion about the correspondence of the images of "gender" in the novel to the standards of modern postmodern society is substantiated. A feature of the cultural stereotypes of modern Ukrainian society is the upbringing of many generations on the works of romantic literature, as a result of which the assimilation of new meanings of postmodern literature turns out to be most effective in the case of imitation of the main features of romantic literature.
The analyzed novel by genre and literary direction is a completely modern work of postmodern literature. However, the author managed to skillfully imitate the literary traditions of the era of romanticism, to actualize the nostalgic reminiscences of readers brought up on the literary classics of the 19th century. This, it seems, explains the popularity of this novel among modern readers.
