CORRELATION OF AESTHETICS AND POLITICS IN THE WORKS OF JACQUES RANCIÈRE

Jacques Rancière's philosophical reflections touch upon many aspects of understanding politics, but the main idea, in our opinion, is the correlation between aesthetics and politics. Rancière considers aesthetics not only as a philosophy of art or a theory of beauty, but as a fundamental way of sensory perception and organization of the world, which is closely related to politics. He argues that both politics and aesthetics deal with the “division of the sensible” (le partage du sensible) – the definition of what is visible and invisible, audible and inaudible, what matters and what is ignored in a particular social order. These views are reflected in a number of his works. This article is devoted to the analysis of this aspect of the French philosopher's work.
