THE PROBLEMS OF CORRELATION BETWEEN SCIENTIFIC TEXT AND PROFESSIONAL DISCOURSE

The article considers general principles of scientific text and professional discourse, rules and algorithms of rendering information in the process of written communication. Due to the specific approaches towards presenting information in each branch of science being available, as well as discourse peculiarities including ethnolinguistic, psychological and cultural factors, the latter are defined and established by certain discourse communities. Such correlation could be possible provided that the nature of discourse and text is determined and compared. The diversity in interpreting these notions within the linguistic scientific community makes fulfilling this task a complicated one, based primarily on the discussions about the priority of the discourse or the text. The concept enlightened in the article regards neither the discourse nor the text to be primary, occurring simultaneously in the author’s choosing the subject, aim, strategy, background etc. and linguistic means of presentation. The category of discourse is considered to belong to linguistic and social sphere while the text is referred solely to the sphere of the language which means that discourse is a broader notion than text, the former covering both text and extralinguistic factors. The focus of the article being the discourse and the text in scientific communication, the specific exposition of the material in scientific and technical texts is taken into consideration
