Abstract

Feelings of love have always been the main topic of creative work, people’s attention. As well as the phraseology. Much of phraseological units, denoting the human feelings, are those that represent love. However, these phraseological units contain not only positive but also negative connotation, also phraseological units, denoting feelings of love are classified as the positive ones. Along with the phraseological units, describing love’s greatness, much of phraseological units’ attention is focused on love’s negative emotions, caused by parting, no mutuality, love’s passing or a broken heart. So what is this feeling, people have glorified not only in the poetry and prose but also in the phraseology of the languages? Thus, the purpose of this article is to identify positive and/or negative emotional coloring of love feelings in phraseological units of Japanese and Ukrainian languages, to define which of them is prevailing. We believe that this article can help to define some cultural differences in the phraseological units of investigated languages.
