The article provides a comparative analysis of value transformations within the classical concepts of modernity and Ronald Inglehart’s postmodern approach, with an emphasis on the Ukrainian context. The object of the study is the key aspects of modernity – identity, religiosity and democracy. The subject is a comparison of the theories of E. Durkheim (anomie), J. Dewey (experience) and C. Taylor (identity) with Inglehart’s postmodern paradigm. The analysis considers how each of the modernization theories interprets value changes, and to what extent they agree or contradict R. Inglehart’s empirical conclusions regarding shifts in value systems. The article offers a critical assessment of theoretical approaches and justifies their relevance for the analysis of socio-cultural dynamics in Ukraine.
