Abstract

This article is a part of the research on the ontology of theatricality and performativity in the socio-cultural dimension, aimed at identifying the key milestones in the formation of the concept of performativity in culture, as well as manifestations of performativity and their impact on the creation of social reality in the socio-cultural and educational contexts. The text highlights the growing interest in performative arts among Ukrainian cultural organizations and researchers which became significant after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The article discusses the diversity of artistic and socio-cultural initiatives that develop performative practices, noting the lack of a systematic approach and deep understanding of the concepts of performance and performativity in Ukrainian research community. It also examines the linguistic studies origins of these notions, and their transformation and impact on culture and society are elucidated due to the works of philosophers and theorists of performativity, such as John L. Austin, Richard Schechner, Erika Fischer-Lichte, and others.
The article raises issues of identity, understanding of cultural heritage, and interaction with the global cultural context within performative practices. It also emphasizes the importance of awareness of one's actions and his/her impact on social reality. The article provides examples of works and their influence on viewers, who also become active participants of performance. Furthermore, it highlights the significance of the philosophical foundation of performative practices and its influence on the way the of perciieving and understanding the world. Finally, the article draws attention to the necessity of a comprehensive approach to performance studies, emphasizing its importance for the development of contemporary culture and the need for Ukrainian research and integration into this process.
